Tiler Has Started

We got a chance to go inside again today as the tiler has started and was there this arvo after work so we got some pics while we had the chance. The tiler is a local bloke and we are lucky that he has started prior to xmas as he said he is flat out at the moment and is getting behind as he is so busy. The tiling should be finished by the end of next week and then everything stops for 4 weeks over the xmas break.

We didn’t get a chance to get any pics of the ensuite as the tiler was working in there getting the base done but we will get some next week and post them then.

Productive Week

Alot has happened this week. The shower surrounds have been done in the main bathroom and ensuite, ready for the tilers (tiles were delivered Thursday). The downpipes were installed Wednesday ready for the stormwater pipes to be laid and we now have a whirlygig on the roof. The electrician has installed all the light fittings/switches, power points and tv/telephone points, so it is all happening again. All the outside light fittings have light globes which is abit weird as they are easy to steal which is exactly what happened the other day. Kell rang the builders the other day and we were told they knock off in 4 weeks time for a month and that they should be close to completion by then so it won’t be too far into the new year before we’re in. We’ll see…..

No new pics at the moment but will post some when we get some….

Not Much Happening…

Well it’s been 9 days since the last post and not alot has been happening. Most of the jobs that were half finished, like the skirting boards and cornice have been finished and the eaves have been started with only about 2 metres worth to go until that is finished (it’s taken them 6 days to get to that stage). You’d think the tradies would stay abit longer to get these jobs finished but instead they’ve gone by 3.30pm most days which is frustrating because we can’t get inside to have a look at things unless they are there. Kell could go around and have a look inside on Mondays but there is never anyone there as they must all be having long weekends every weekend. Oh well we shouldn’t complain as it really hasn’t taken long to get to this stage and we did have the first heatwave ever recorded in November last week with 5 or more days over 35 degrees (the hottest day was 42.1), so I probably wouldn’t want to be working in that heat either.

We Have A Kitchen

Not much has been happening this past week and that could be due to the fact that we are in the midst of the hottest November on record. We’ve had temps in excess of 35 degrees and I don’t blame the tradies for not working, who’d want to in this heat. But we did have the kitchen and vanity units delivered during the week and we had to look at them through the window…that sucks. Come Friday though we went around to see if anything had been done and lo and behold the kitchen had been installed. The bloke installing it looked stuffed but he had done an excellent job considering the conditions. He had installed the ensuite unit but couldn’t do the main bathroom due to the pipes being in the wrong place, so the plumbers have to come back to move them before that is done. It all looks really good and Kell made a good choice with the colour of the kitchen doors, it should look great once the tiles, appliances and paint are done. Oh well here’s some more pics and if you’re in SA stay cool, there’s only a week to go before things cool down.

Locked Out

Well guess what? After a week and a half of minimal progress we’ve been locked out. Yes the house has gone to lockup. We were lucky enough to get around there today before the chippie left and found that all the door frames and window frames had been done as well as the internal and external doors. We’ll have to go around during the day now if we want to have a look at what’s been done and to get more pics.
We’ve made a decision regarding the verandah and we are going to go flat roof as peaked will cost us an extra $4000. So if anyone thinks we should go peaked you are quite welcome to donate money towards it and we’ll invite you around for a barbecue so you can have a look….

Update…

Not much has been done this week, in fact there was only 1 day of work done and that was by the plasterer who came in and done the flushing. Oh well i guess we have to be patient and wait. As the saying goes all good things come to those who wait…. We have started working out what we are going to be doing out the back and have gone and got quotes for the verandah, fencing and shed. Not quite sure whether to go peaked or flat roof with the verandah, will have to see what everything else is going to cost us and make a decision then.

Half The Gyprock Is Up

The gyprockers started today and they have the ceiling and at least half the walls done. It’s looking really good and you now get a real sense of room sizes. Can’t wait to see it finished tomorrow but knowing our luck it will go to lockup and we will have to peer through the windows. Oh and the rear fence was also finished today.

Insulation Has Been Installed

Well, the electrical wiring has been completed and the insulation has been installed. The gyprockers will be in tomorrow to do the gyprock and that should be completed Friday. The owner of the house behind us has started putting up the rear fence so we now have more of an idea of what to do out the back so the planning begins on what to do out there in regards to lawn, gardens, shed etc.

Since the last post the airconditioner blokes have installed their plumbing/power etc for the aircon so it’s all happening at the moment which is good…..

Building Update

The brickies finished today and the plumbers have started to install the plumbing. We are very happy about the bricks we picked and once the render is done it will look even better than it does now. Sorry that are no new pictures but the batteries went flat as soon as we turned on the camera. Will post some pics in the next couple of days.
